A new research project has started during the summer of 1999 on "Controlling water use of trees to alleviate subsidence risk". Most of the work is being carried out
by Dr. N.A. Hipps at Horticulture Research International, East Malling, Kent. The project is funded by a consortium of collaborating parties headed by the
Association of British Insurers, and by a grant from the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions under the Horticulture LINK Programme. Dr.
P.G. Biddle is one of the collaborating sponsors. Work on the project is still at an early stage, and is expected to continue for five years. No results are available at
present but, as information becomes available for release, updates will be given on this web site.
